These are the quarters that could be worth more than $3,000: How do I know if I have one?

According to a report by GoBankingRates, between 1999 and 2008, new quarters were released every ten weeks. During this period, each state in the country released a representative image along with the year it entered the United States.

By the year 2000, designs from Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Virginia were minted. Some of these are currently worth more than $3,000, provided they are in excellent condition- near mint or uncirculated.

Coins that have never been in circulation are labeled 'Mint State' and are often marked with the initials MS. According to the Professional Coin Classification Service, these are some units that are valued at more than $3,000:

  • Massachusetts 2000-P MS69: $3,760
  • South Carolina 2000-P MS69: $3,525

As for the rest of the states that minted quarters in 2000, although the value of most units does not exceed a thousand dollars; you can still earn some extra income from them. This is what they are worth according to the Professional Coin Classification Service:

  • Maryland 2000-P MS65: $1,495
  • New Hampshire 2000-D (Denver mint) MS68: $633
  • Virginia 2000-P MS68: $400

Typically, quarters are worth more than their face value because, in a Mint State, they manage to achieve a high sum in auctions.
