Conservative members of Congress demand FCC action against the Puerto Rican star, the NFL and NBC, igniting backlash online.

Several Republican members of Congress are calling on the Federal Communications Commission to fine and even jail Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, along with executives at the NFL and NBC, over his Super Bowl LX halftime performance on Sunday.

The lawmakers claim the show included what they described as “unspeakable depravities,” escalating a culture war fight that quickly spilled onto social media.

Rep. Randy Fine not keen on Bad Bunny

Rep. Randy Fine labeled the performance “illegal” and “pure smut,” arguing that if Bad Bunny had performed what he called “pornographic” lyrics in English, the broadcast would have been pulled off the air and the artist fined.

“We are sending Brendan Carr a letter calling for dramatic action, including fines and broadcast license reviews, against the NFL, NBC, and ‘Bad Bunny.’ Lock them up,” Fine wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Republicans escalate attacks on Bad Bunny and his fans

Fine went even further in a separate post.

“Today would be a great day to round up and deport illegals. Especially those who liked ‘Bad Bunny’s’ flilth. ALL of them. NO EXECPETIONS,” he wrote.

Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee also sent a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee calling for an investigation into the NFL and NBC for “facilitating this indecent broadcast.” Ogles argued that Bad Bunny’s music “glorifies sodomy and other unspeakable depravities.”

Missouri Rep. Mark Alford said Republicans are already investigating the performance in Congress, particularly after English translations of the lyrics circulated online.

“I don’t speak fluent Spanish. I can ask where the bathroom is,” Alford said. “But if what was said on national television is accurate, we have a lot of questions for the entities that broadcast this, and we will be talking with Brendan Carr at the FCC about it.”

The controversy has fueled intense debate online, with critics accusing the lawmakers of censorship and political grandstanding, while supporters argue the halftime show crossed a line for network television.

Trump weighs in on Halftime Show

President Donald Trump was among the first prominent Republicans to criticize the performance, calling it “one of the worst in history” and “an affront to the greatness of America.”
