Was any damage sustained to the Brooklyn Bridge after being crashed into by a Mexican naval boat?
The tragic accident killed two people on board, but at this point, the Brooklyn Bridge seems to have weathered the hit.

Images from New York City of the Mexican naval boat, Cuauhtémoc, crashing into the iconic Brooklyn Bridge reminded many of the early morning collision at a Baltimore port that brought down part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge last year.
The tragic collision in New York occurred at around 8:20 pm ET, killing two people and leaving 19 injured, two of whom remained in critical condition, according to the city’s mayor, Eric Adams.
Earlier tonight, the Mexican Navy tall ship Cuauhtémoc lost power and crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge.

At this time, of the 277 on board, 19 sustained injuries, 2 of which remain in critical condition, and 2 more have sadly passed away from their injuries. pic.twitter.com/mlaCX0X8Mh
Did the Brooklyn Bridge sustain damage?
After the collision, transit authorities were dispatched to the Brooklyn Bridge to evaluate the damage and the structural integrity. Traffic was halted as the investigations were underway, but reopened shortly after when it was deemed safe.
NYC DOT bridge inspectors have been on site since this evening’s boat crash. While inspections will remain ongoing, there are no signs of structural damage to the Brooklyn Bridge. https://t.co/IfpKIXJhYo

Around two hours after the collision, the NYC Department of Transportation reported that there were no signs of structural damage, but that inspections would continue through the night. Over 130,000 vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists travel across the Brooklyn Bridge each day.
Reminiscent of the collision at a Baltimore port in 2024
The Francis Scott Key Bridge, which connects Hawkins Point in Baltimore to Sollers Point in Dundalk, was hit by a cargo ship early on March 26, 2024. The damages caused by the crash and the subsequent collapse are expected to total between $1.7 and $1.9 billion.
Unlike the case from the Big Apple, where the bridge sustained minimal damage, the collision in Maryland led part of the bridge to collapse. Sadly, six workers doing maintenance on the bridge were killed following the collapse.
