Watch out this summer: Trump’s tariffs are forcing this airline to cancel dozens of flights every week
A Seattle-based airline has warned that there will be numerous cancellations over the next couple of months.

Alaska Airlines says there will be daily cancellations to flights operated by one of its subsidiaries this summer.
According to the Seattle-based airline, Donald Trump’s tariffs mean it is currently unable to take delivery of new aircraft it has ordered - a situation which will adversely affect the volume of flights the carrier can handle.
How many flights will be cancelled?
Alaska Airlines has been due to receive two new planes made by the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer, but says it “will not accept additional costs” incurred by the U.S. president’s aggressive policy of levies on imports.
Goods arriving in the America from Brazil have been subject to a 10% tariff since early April, when President Trump announced a sweeping series of ‘Liberation Day’ levies on imports from countries worldwide.
Per CBS, Alaska Airlines says its inability to receive its new Embraer E175 jets - a model that specializes in short to medium-haul journeys - means the carrier must shelve 14 flights a day operated by its regional subsidiary Horizon.
The spate of cancellations is slated to continue through the end of July.
“We are focused on controlling what we can control”
“We deeply regret the impact this situation will have on our guests this summer,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement this week, per CBS.
“Amid the ongoing uncertain economic environment, we are focused on controlling what we can control - including costs, productivity, operational performance and taking care of our guests to the best of our ability.
“As part of this effort to control our costs, Alaska will not accept additional costs imposed by tariffs throughout our supply chain.”
Which Alaska subsidiary is affected?
Alaska Airlines currently has a fleet of 87 Embraer aircraft, which are all operated by Horizon and another of Alaska’s subsidiaries, SkyWest Airlines. The two new E175s are both set to be used by Horizon.
While cancellations will impact flights across Horizon’s network of routes, Anchorage Daily News says the carrier has “focused on high-frequency routes where it could most easily reroute customers to other options”.
According to Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air “serves more than 45 cities in Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.”
