What did Kate Moss say in Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial testimony?
The British model spoke from England via video conference to the court in Fairfax, Virginia, in response to accusations from Heard.
Kate Moss, the world renowned supermodel from the United Kingdom who had previously been in a relationship with Johnny Depp, testified on Day 22 of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s defamation case against Amber Heard.
What did Kate Moss say about Depp’s violence?
On Wednesday 25 May, there was increased intrigue in the trial between the former husband and wife - follow it live - when Moss took to the stand. The 48-year old had not originally been on the witness list but a comment made about her by Heard during her testimony had Depp’s lawyers keen to get her to speak out.
Moss was asked by Depp’s lawyer about a rumoured incident, one that Heard had referenced, whereby Depp had pushed her down a flight of stairs. Speaking via video link from Gloucester, England, Moss testified that she fell down the stairs because it was raining and Depp never pushed her. She then elaborated her brief answer by saying that after hurting her back he came to her aid.
“I screamed and he [Depp] came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention, Moss said”
This was a good moment for the Depp legal team, one that had only been offered up to them by Heard’s testimony.
Why was Kate Moss testifying?
During her own testimony, Heard brought up Moss’ name and this is the reason why she was called up as a witness. The 48-year old had a romantic relationship with Depp between 1994 and 1998. Heard referred to the model when describing an altercation between Depp and her sister she said it “reminded” her of a rumour that the actor allegedly pushed Moss down the stairs.
“I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t wait. I immediately thought of Kate Moss and the stairs, and I hit him,” Heard said after acknowledging that she hit the actor to defend her sister while the two were arguing.
These words sparked further positivity for Depp’s lawyers inside the courtroom as, according to the US media, Moss maintains a good relationship with the actor and the mere mention of the incident allowed her to be included in the list of witnesses. That said, it seems that there were indeed altercations during Moss and Depp’s romance, although nothing was revealed in Wednesday’s testimony, with Heard’s lawyers choosing not to cross-examine.
The closing statements are due on Friday before the jury makes its verdict.
