What is the ‘NGL: anonymous q&a’ app and how to add it to your Instagram stories

The latest app to go viral on Instagram lets you attach a link to your account that your followers can use to send you messages anonymously.

How to add the 'NGL: anonymous q&a' app to an Instagram Story and Bio

Launched in November 2021, NGL: anonymous q&a has finally gotten its wings going viral in early June. Thanks in large part to Instagram users adding the DeepMoji app’s link to their Bio and Stories.

The app is targeted at teens and young adults who “don’t have a space to share their feelings without judgement from friends or societal pressures.” Its creators believe being anonymous should be fun but at the same time safe for expressing one’s “feelings and opinions without shame.”

What is NGL: anonymous q&a?

“It’s a fresh take on anonymity” according to its developers, DeepMoji, a small team of designers and engineers based in Venice Beach, California. “NGL” is internet lingo for “Not Gonna Lie”. The free-to-use app allows users “to share their honest feelings and opinions” incognito with someone who has embedded the app’s link in a Story or their Bio.

NGL: anonymous q&a also has in-app purchases that lets users get unlimited hints about who a message is from for $1.99, $6.99 or even $9.99. The app is available worldwide and its creators are currently working over the coming months on translating it to more than 50 languages.

How to Add an NGL: anonymous q&a link to Instagram Story or Bio?

Adding the NGL link to your Instagram Bio or a Story isn’t a very complicated affair, much like you would add any other.

First off, launch the NGL app and copy your NGL link. Then open your Instagram account. Create a new Story by swiping left and then tap the sticker emoji. It will be the second icon in the top-right corner. Now tap on the sticker which says link, then paste the information in the ‘add link’ box. Finally post the story and your good to go.

For your Bio, again grab the link from the NGL app but this time in the Instagram app go into your profile. Tap “Edit profile” and paste your NGL link in it.

To access your messages tap on the NGL inbox and the messages you’ve received will be displayed.

Is NGL: anonymous q&a safe?

DeepMoji says that they “use world class AI content moderation” which can “filter out the bad stuff.” The system utilizes rule-based character pattern-matching algorithms and deep-learning that can detect and remove harmful language and bullying. This applies to the semantic meaning of emojis. Their technology scans the web for contextual use of emojis so that they can keep up with trends that are constantly evolving.

However, from a quick search of comments about the app, it appears some nasty comments can still get through.

But is it truly anonymous?

As mention before, the in-app purchases allow you to access unlimited hints about who sent you a message. For $1.99, $6.99 or $9.99 you can access to hints but they are pretty generic such as what kind of device, or where the message was sent from. Again, the online commentary says that it isn’t worth forking out the money.
