Getting out to see a blockbuster movie, weather permitting, on Christmas Day with the family or taking one in at home is a wonderful way to relax.

The presents are open and the Christmas feast is settling in your belly, so now all that is left to do is sit back and relax. What better way than to take in a movie with the family.

There are a number of blockbusters in the cinema this holiday season like ‘Avatar: The Way of the Water’ that really should be seen on a big screen. However, for those still suffering the aftermath of Winter Storm Elliot, venturing out into the bitter cold may not be recommended. No worries, there are plenty of films streaming that are sure to be a hit with the whole family.

Here’s a look at some of the movies are showing Christmas Day 2022.

Avatar: The Way of Water

Fans of David Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ have been waiting for 13 years for the writer and director to release a follow-up film to his 2009 movie that revolutionized 3D on the silver screen. ‘Avatar: The Way of the Water’ was released on 16 of December just in time for the holiday season.

The story picks up over a decade after the original and tells the story of the Sully family, Jake, Neytiri and their five children. A familiar threat forces them to flee and seek refuge in the land of the Metkayina clan that live in the Pandoran oceans. But as trouble follows them they will have to endure tragedies and go to great lengths to keep each other safe and fight to stay alive.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

The sequel to the 2011 Oscar-nominated animated movie ‘Puss in Boots’ arrived just in time for Christmas and has already received acclaim itself. ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ has our adventure seeking Puss realize that he has a problem, he’s used up eight of his nine lives. Before he uses up his last life he sets out to find the mythical “Last Wish” to get back his lost lives.

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody

Naomi Ackie plays one of the greatest singers of her generation, Whitney Houston, in ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’. This biopic will take you on a journey of the life of the late musical icon from record executive Clive Davis discovering her discovery through her rise to international fame in the 1980s.

Babylon

This star-studded film, including Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Tobey Maguire to name a few, will take you back to the golden age of Hollywood full of decadence, depravity, and outrageous excess. The director of LA-LA LAND follows the transition of the movie industry from silent films to talkies in this dark epic film, ‘Babylon’.

The Pale Blue Eye

This Horror-mystery movie, ‘The Pale Blue Eye’, takes place in 1830 at the recently established military academy West Point. Christian Bale plays Augustus Landor, a veteran detective who is tasked with solving a series of grisly murders that threaten to undo the fledging institution. However, to overcome the code of silence among its members hindering his investigation, Landor enlists a young cadet to help him who would later go on to become the master of tales of mystery and the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe.
