What to do to get your money back from the IRS if you declared your stimulus check
For those who declared certain relief checks as income, an amendment may need to be submitted to the IRS to receive your full refund.
The tax season in the United States is coming to an end.
As of January, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been receiving and processing tax returns for millions of American taxpayers.
The deadline to file the tax return is April 18, with the possibility of requesting an extension until October 16. It should be mentioned that the extension is only valid for the tax declaration, but not for the payment of taxes.
What to do to get your money back from the IRS if you declared your stimulus check
If you filed your tax return before February 10 and received a stimulus check from one of the twenty-one states that offered some type of financial aid for inflation or natural disasters, the IRS recommends filing an amended return.
At the beginning of February the IRS issued a statement stating that special payments made in twenty-one states in the country in 2022 do not need to be reported as income on income tax returns.
Given that the measure was announced on February 10 the IRS understands that a large number of taxpayers may have reported the stimulus checks on their respective tax returns. If this is the case, an amended return must be filed for the IRS to repay the money via the refund payment.
