For almost nine decades, the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center has remained one of the most iconic emblems of the festive period for both New York residents and visitors alike.

Switching on the Christmas lights at the famous location has, as a result of its fame, become a huge event on the calendar and is now one of the most important traditions... and it’s finally here!

Everything you need to know about the Rockefeller Christmas lights in 2023

According to the Rockefeller page, for 2023, the Christmas tree is a Norwegian Fir tree between 80 and 85-years-old, and stands at 80ft high. It is 43ft wide, weighs 12 tonnes and comes from Vestal, New York.

In order to grant enough time ahead of the celebrations to decorate the huge feat of nature, the tree arrived at the Rockefeller Center on Saturday 11 November.

The tree has more than 5,000 multi-colour LED lights and around 5 miles (8km) of wiring. At the top, the three-dimensional star, designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind in 2018, weighs around 900lbs (408kg) and has 70 spikes covered in Swarovski crystals.

When is the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting in 2023?

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting will take place on Wednesday 29 November 2023. The live transmission of the event will be able to be seen on NBC that very day as of 8:00pm ET.

The lighting will also be able to be seen on FuboTV, as well as Sling TV.

How long will the Christmas tree lights be on for?

According to the Rockefeller Center themselves, the tree will remain lit every day from 5:00am until 12:00am. On Christmas Day, the tree will remain lit for 24 hours and on New Year’s Eve it will be on from 5:00am until 9:00pm.

The tree will remain at the Rockefeller center until January 13 2024 at 10:00pm.
