Who is still in the Republican Party presidential race? 8 candidates remain

US Senator Tim Scott has suspended his presidential campaign... a look at the candidates that still remain in the race.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
How and where to watch the third GOP debate

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott suspended his Republican Party primary campaign during a Fox News interview on 11 November.

I love America more today than I did on May 22,” said Senator Scott when announcing that he would be bringing his campaign to a close. He added that he did not think the voters were ready for the message of his campaign, which was focused on a faith-based approach to politics.

All candidates who have abandoned the race

Tim Scott is the sixth Republican candidate to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, leaving five remaining candidates. His departure from the 2024 field follows that of Miami mayor Francis Suarez, Congressman Will Hurd, Businessman Perry Johnson, former radio host Larry Elder, and former Vice President Mike Pence.

Which candidates still remain in the race?

Following Scott's departure, the list of Republicans seeking Party selection is reduced to 8 candidates, who are as follows:

Donald Trump

The strongest candidate within the party is former President Donald Trump, who announced his candidacy in November 2023.

Ron DeSantis

The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, kicked off his campaign in May of this year with significant support from voters. However, his poll numbers have recently declined while Trump’s have increased. Similar to Trump, DeSantis has focused his campaign on culture war issues.

Nikki Haley

The former Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, announced her candidacy for the 2023 Republican presidential nomination in mid-February. Currently, she is positioned as one of the top contenders, trailing only Ron DeSantis.

Haley took to X to tweet her support for Senator Scott after he announced that he would be bringing his campaign to an end.

Vivek Ramaswamy

Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech executive with tough immigration stances, entered the race in late February.

Asa Hutchinson

One of the Republican candidates running for the party nomination is the former governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson. However, he is facing a lack of popularity among the voters and has been advised to quit the race. Despite this, he has refused to do so, as he is against the idea of former President Trump becoming the 2024 GOP nominee.

Chris Christie

The previous governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, was once a faithful supporter of Donald Trump. However, he distanced himself from the former president after the controversy surrounding allegations of electoral fraud in the 2020 general elections and the assault on the Capitol in 2021. As a result, he announced his candidacy for an upcoming election in June of 2023.

Doug Burgum

In June of this year, the governor of North Dakota announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States. Unlike the other candidates, Burgum is new to the political world, having worked in the private sector until 2011, when he sold his company to Microsoft. In 2016, he ran and won the election for governor of his state.

Ryan Binkley

Ryan Binkley is the CEO of Generational Group and the founder of Create Church, a multi-ethnic church in Texas. He joined the race in April 2023 and has not qualified for any debates.
