Congress may have seen the last of Rep. George Santos after his expelling from Capitol Hill in December. In his place, Democrat Tom Suozzi is returning to the House of Representatives. Suozzi has been a prominent figure in New York politics for two decades and has already been the Representative for the 3rd District in New York two times in the past.

Suozzi won the special election to replace George Santos, overturning the Republican majority.

“The people of Queens and Long Island are sick and tired of political bickering,” Suozzi said during a victory speech. “They want us to come together and solve problems.”

Tom Suozzi’s career

His political journey began at the local level, where he served as Mayor of Glen Cove from 1994 to 2001. His success as mayor propelled him to the position of Nassau County Executive, a role he held from 2002 to 2009.

In 2016, Suozzi was elected to represent New York’s 3rd Congressional District in the House of Representatives. He was reelected in 2018 and 2020, proving his popularity in the area. However, Suozzi has failed in two runs for governor of New York, losing both in 2006 and 2022.

“I ran for governor and got my ass kicked,” he said in an interview.

His return to Capitol Hill decreases the Republican majority in the House, now standing at just six seats.

Tom Suozzi’s personal life

Suozzi has a wife and three children, while having an estimated net worth of $2,932,533, though this information is from 2018.
