Celebrities’ names are their brand so it initially came a shock that Jennifer Lopez decided to take Ben Affleck’s surname when the secretly wed in Las Vegas over the weekend. However, a recently resurfaced video shows that was JLo’s plan twenty years ago when the couple known as ‘Bennifer’ were engaged for the first time.

The intense media pressure two decades ago put an unbearable strain on their relationship ultimately forcing them to call off the wedding just days before they were set to walk down the aisle. While the second time round they chose to forgo the extravagance, opting for the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas they stuck to the original plan of Jennifer Lopez becoming Jennifer Lynn Affleck.

JLo or JAff?

In a recently resurfaced video of a 2003 interview with Access Hollywood, Jennifer Lopez was quizzed by host Pat O’Brien on whether she would change her name. At first she was wondering if he meant professionally, to which O’Brien said ‘yeah.’

Without blinking as she prepared a meal in the apartment she was renting in Vancouver with Ben Affleck, she said that she would keep her professional brand name. With equal confidence she said that her name though would change to Jennifer Affleck, “obviously.”

When asked if she would put on her stationary “J.Aff” she responded, “It doesn’t quite have the same ring.” In a somewhat ackward moment for both interviewer and interviewee, O’Brien asked if she would use JLo then, on her stationary. “Jennifer, Jennifer,” she responded.
