The list of companies suspending advertising on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, continues to expand. According to a report by CNN, Hyundai is the latest brand to halt advertising on X due to antisemitism. The decision came after an advertisement from the automaker appeared alongside an antisemitic and pro-Hitler post on the social media site.

“We have paused our ads on X and are in direct discussions with X regarding brand safety to ensure this issue is addressed,” a Hyundai spokesperson told the outlet.

Regarding the antisemitic post that appeared alongside Hyundai’s advertisement, X informed CNN that the account had been suspended. Upon visiting the account, it displays: “@pepedownunder is temporarily unavailable because it violates Twitter’s Media Policy.”

Other brands that have suspended their X advertising

According to a November article from The Washington Post, some of the companies that decided to pull their advertising on the social network include IBM, Apple, Lionsgate, Paramount, Comcast, and Warner Bros.

Some of these companies stated they have a zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech and discrimination.

Anti-semitic attacks soar in the USA

This week, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) shared its annual audit of antisemitism. According to the analysis, 8,873 antisemitic incidents were tracked in the United States in 2023, marking the highest number of reported incidents since the organization began tracking data in 1979.

Incidents increased across all major audit categories. Aggression incidents rose by 45% to 161 incidents, vandalism increased by 69% to 2,177 incidents, and harassment surged by 184% to 6,535 incidents.
