Spider-Man No Way Home: the recreation of the Spider-Man meme was Andrew Garfield's idea
Sony Pictures shares a new trailer for the Blu-Ray and DVD bonus content of the latest Spider-Man movie featuring outtakes, interviews and more.
After more than two months of one of the biggest secrets in recent movie history (an open secret following pre-release leaks), Sony Pictures finally makes official the presence of the two previous cinematic Spider-Men in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That is, the Peter Parker of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who join Tom Holland to open the doors of the Spiderverse in the cinema. Coinciding with the official presentation of the home editions of the film, unpublished material from the shooting has been released, including a nice picture with the three arachnid protagonists imitating the iconic Spider-Man meme, pointing at each other. But whose idea was it?

Although there is a scene in the film that recreates this meme in a more subtle way, the three actors did not want to miss the opportunity to recreate the meme in a straightforward way, something that came from the playful mind of Andrew Garfield in the middle of filming. Tom Holland told Deadline: “From [Garfield] cracking Tobey’s back to [him] coming up with the idea of pointing at us, it was all stuff that we came up with on the day. It was just a lot of fun to be able to play with three guys in Spider-Man suits…Sharing it with these boys will be forever one of the most special experiences of my career.”
In fact, Garfield's improvisation was key to achieving some of the film's funniest scenes between the three Spider-Men, as the actor recently recounted: “Oh, so we were trying to figure out the pointing thing, like how we were going to do the pointing meme in a way — it took us a while — it kind of happened naturally on that scaffolding scene with Peter 1, Peter 2, Peter 3, like all that.”
