Eevee is a Pokémon universe icon. Introduced in the first generation, back in Kanto, we are dealing with a species with special genetics capable of evolving into one creature or another depending on the conditions and the evolutionary object to which we subject it. The methods to evolve Eevee in Pokémon GO are different from what we are used to, so let's see below the method to get Sylveon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Umbreon, Espeon, Glaceon or Leafeon. We update this article with the latest information as of 2022.
How to capture Eevee in Pokémon GO?
To capture Eevee we have two options: either find it in the wild or through the hatching of a 5km Egg (it can come out shiny).
The first thing we have to say about Pokémon #133 of the National Pokédex is that it is an original species from Kanto, Generation I. It was there that its first three evolutions of Electric, Water and Fire types (Jolteon, Vaporeon and Flareon) were introduced. For Generation II, their Psychic- and Dark-type variants (Espeon and Umbreon) were introduced. From there, a jump to Generation IV with the Plant and Ice type options (Leafeon and Glaceon) to, finally, welcome the last member of the family, Fairy type (Sylveon), in Generation VI. Its capture rate is 40% under normal conditions. All eight evolutions are now available on Pokémon GO.
In Pokémon GO, Eevee maintains Normal type, so it is weak to Fighting type and resistant to Ghost type. To evolve, 25 candies are always necessary; regardless of the conditions. We believe it is necessary to emphasize this because candies are mandatory to start the evolution process. Its base stats are 104 in ATT, 114 in DEF and 146 in stamina, rather modest characteristics that are not worth keeping. Therefore, evolving this species is highly recommended if we want to use it in the GO Battle League or in a Raid.
List of nicknames to choose for Eevee in Pokémon GO
One of the methods to evolve your Eevee in any of the seven eeveelution currently available in Pokémon GO is by changing the nickname; but it only works for the first time and 25 candies are needed. After the first change, when you capture new Eevee, this trick will not work.

If we choose during the day, the result will be Espeon; if we do it at night, the resulting evolution will be Umbreon.
How to evolve to Leafeon or Glaceon
- Leafeon or Glaceon: to obtain the new generation variants, we have to opt for the Lure Module. In this case, it is not necessary to walk or use Eevee as a companion, but make sure you have a Mossy Lure Module (200 Pokecoins in the Store or reward in research missions) to get Leafeon; or a Glacial Lure Module (200 Pokecoins in the Store or reward in research missions) to get Glaceon.
How to evolve to Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon
- Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon: in these three cases there is no possibility to choose beyond the nickname trick, after that, everything is random. When we subject Eevee without having walked 10 km to evolve with 25 candies, the result will be completely random.
How to evolve to Sylveon
Sylveon debuted in Pokémon GO in May 2021, and is obtained through two methods. Apart from the nickname (Kira), Niantic has chosen in this case the method of friendship to forge a relationship that will result in the Fairy-type evolution of Eevee: buddy hearts. By earning 70 hearts being Eevee our buddy, that's when it will evolve to Sylveon. No additional candies are necessary.

One of the most frequently asked questions is which Eevee evolution is the best for Pokémon GO. The answer is not easy, as it depends on what we want it for (defending gyms, as an attacker, as a defender, for a specific PvP league... Let's first get to know the base stats of each of them.

Espeon
It is the Pokémon with the highest number of CP and the highest Attack, which makes it one of the most interesting evolutions for offensive tasks. With moves like Confusion and Premonition, it is ideal for competitive play. At the competitive level it is not usually used in the Great League or Ultra League.
Umbreon
One of the best for PvP in the Great League. We highly recommend it if you are going to participate in the GO Battle League up to 1500 CP because Umbreon has an extraordinary Defense. Moves like Shadow Pulse on charge or Last Stand (Elite TM) give it a lot of versatility with its Dark type.
Vaporeon
A Pokémon with a large amount of CP, which makes it easy to use it to defend gyms, and an extraordinary Stamina. It is the evolution of Eevee with the highest Stamina, but its discreet Attack prevents us from recommending it for PvP. Its most outstanding moves are Hydro Pump and Last Stand, the first of which is essential because it has 47.3 DPS.
Jolteon
Little to highlight about Jolteon, the evolution of the Electric type. With moves like Thunder it can give us a great joy, but otherwise, it is not one of the most outstanding. Neither in the Great League nor in the Ultra League it has space because it has many weaknesses, so it is better to choose other options.
Flareon
Good Attack and lots of CP, especially interesting if used with lethal moves like Flare or Suffocate. One of the most interesting options in offensive tasks for fights in gyms or raids, but we must be careful with its weaknesses: x4 to Ground, Rock and Water. In PvP it is not among the most used neither in the Great League nor in the Ultra League.
Glaceon
The Ice-type option has no less than four x4 weaknesses: Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel. Despite having a large number of CP, it does not hold its own in the Ultra League or Super Ball. In addition, among all the moves it can learn, it can only excel with Ice Beam and Avalanche. We do not recommend its use in competitive or raids.
Leafeon
This Grass-type Pokémon has a total of five x4 weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug and Ice. This aspect is not trivial, and it doesn't have any outstanding features at a competitive level. However, its Solar Beam move is spectacularly strong, but its discreet Defense can also lead to an early casualty.
Sylveon
Being a Fairy-type species, its use is very suitable for Dragon-type Pokémon. It is a versatile alternative in the GO Battle League or in PVP, thanks to its base stats, but it is not the most recommended for competitive play. It is weak to Poison and Steel. We recommend using it with Charm and Magic Shine. With good IVs it is recommended for the Great League.
Can Eevee's nickname trick fail?
Choosing the evolution of Eevee in Pokémon GO through the change of nickname is an alternative or trick that only works once for each eeveelution. That is, one for each of the eight members available to date in the game. If you have an Eevee and rename it as Sakura, it will evolve to Espeon, but only once. In case you try it again, it will have no effect with that nickname.
This trick may not work with Umbreon and Espeon if there has been a problem monitoring your steps. The requirement for these two evolutions is to accumulate 10 km walked during the day (Espeon) or during the night (Umbreon). If the evolution does not take place, it is because you have not counted the distance correctly or there has been some derived problem. Therefore, keep walking and make sure that in the game it is day or night, even if it fits the real-time.
