Update:
The Rings of Power: what is Elrond's relationship with the dwarves?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now among us. Prime Video has released one of the most anticipated series by fans of Tolkien's work, where new questions arise from the vast universe of Middle-earth. Specifically, what is Elrond's relationship with the dwarves? The meeting seen in the first two episodes offers a reunion between two great friends.

Elrond and the dwarves, a relationship forged by iron

Elrond and Durin IV had not seen each other for 20 years at the time of The Rings of Power. Two decades in which both sages catch up on what has happened during the Second Age.

But when did they meet? The series does not go into that detail, but knowing the longevity of elves and dwarves we can do the math. Dwarves are considered battle-ready at 30, and enter adulthood at 65. It is not until 240 that they are known as elders. They can reach up to 300 years of life. That's almost nothing. Therefore, logic tells us that Durin IV and Elrond met between youth and adulthood.

Elrond's closeness to the dwarves dates back to the task given to him by Gil-galad, High King of the Ñoldor. He was to work with the master blacksmith Celebrimbor, who has an important task in the forging of the Rings of Power. His workshop was located in Eregion, very close to Khazad-dûm, the abode where King Durin reigned in Moria. His constant wanderings over the decades forged close contact with the Durin lineage from father to son. This creates a curious situation. On paper, elves and dwarves are polar opposites, given their way of life, traits... But once the clichés are left at the door, both races can create powerful bonds.
