FIFA 23 receives its first patch: tougher penalties, more dribbling and referee changes

EA Sports has opened the curtain. Because for soccer fans, there is only one thing better than the rule changes that happen from one season to the next: the changes in FIFA from one month to the next. The company has announced the first update for FIFA 23, with important new features for referees, penalties, and dribbling. The game's first patch is now available and includes the following four adjustments:

  • Reduced the accuracy of Penalty Kicks taken when the Composure Ring is yellow or red.
  • Increased Technical Dribbling animation speed for lower rated dribblers.
  • This change specifically impacts players whose dribbling related Attributes are below 90.
  • Adjusted referees to be less likely to call fouls for arm-related collisions.
  • Adjusted referees to be more likely to award yellow cards for fouls committed by Hard Slide Tackles.

The aim of the changes is to make penalties more difficult, punish or raise the hand with some actions and allow a greater proliferation of dribbling and filigree. It is expected that this patch will be joined later this month by a second update that modifies the controversial lengthy sprint style that gives so much advantage due to the FIFA 23 meta game.
