Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is not in Capcom's plans

The producer of the saga does not close the door to a Code Veronica remake but assures that they are not working on it nor have their minds set on it.

Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is not in Capcom's plans

Now that the Resident Evil 4 remake is just around the corner launching on March 24, 2023, and its new trailer gave us goosebumps, many of us dreamed that Capcom would take a break from the main saga and look towards other installments of the survival horror franchise. After all, the first four games already have remakes, and Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 don't seem to need one anytime soon. It was the perfect time to remember some of the past spin-offs like Resident Evil Outbreak or the always-missed Resident Evil: Code Veronica. However, it seems that that option is not in Capcom's plans for now.

One of the franchise's producers, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, has given an interview with the folks at Noisy Pixel in which he put an end to the rumors. In it, Hirabayashi assures that there are no concrete plans to remake Claire's adventure, explaining that there is no one at Capcom who is currently working on the remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Even so, the producer opens a door to it in the future and concludes with the following phrase: "if the opportunity comes, maybe". What is he implying, and what does it depend on?

The resurrection of survival horror

For now, we'll have to settle for the Resident Evil 4 Remake, whose trailer was released 24 hours after Silent Hill 2 Remake was announced, to the joy of the fans of the franchise. As if Capcom didn't want Konami to be the protagonist and we've all been taken back to the late 90s and early 2000s when Resident Evil and Silent Hill were battling it out for supremacy in the survival horror genre. Between their rivalry and that of Dead Space Remake and The Callisto Protocol, these are certainly good times for the genre. Long may they last.
