The Game Awards

The Game Awards 2022 will be "significantly shorter" this year

In addition to announcing that it will be a shorter event, Geoff Keighley also confirms the presence of nearly 40 video games at this year's awards gala.

Update:
The Game Awards 2022 will be "significantly shorter" this year

The Game Awards, which includes announcements and live performances, usually lasts several hours. Throughout these years, the most critical voices have sharpened their knives against Geoff Keighley and his show, as they think that its length is excessive. The gala's host is aware of this and has confirmed that this year's edition will be shorter.

"One thing we’re doing this year is we’re trying to make the show a little bit shorter," he revealed in a Twitter livestream. "I won’t say anything officially until we’re through our rehearsals, but we think it’s going to be a significantly shorter show this year."

And why did they decide to opt for a shorter gala? Keighley has reflected on this and has pointed to "a little bit of fatigue" as the main reason. He argues that many people want to be part of the show and that there were too many games, so in this edition, they are going to make cuts in that sense:

"We definitely have cut back pretty significantly in terms of the runtime on the show and just you know kind of fewer games, fewer bigger games that’ll be in there," he said. In any case, the Canadian has advanced that The Game Awards 2022 will feature between 30 and 40 video games.

Which are the 2022 GOTY nominees?

Only a few days are left to decide which title will win the award for best game of the year. Among the candidates are, of course, the two big favorites: on the one hand, Elden Ring, From Software's masterpiece directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki; on the other, God of War Ragnarök, the sequel to the game of 2018. Other contenders include A Plague Tale: Requiem, Stray, Horizon Forbidden West, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

The Game Awards 2022 will be held on December 8, starting at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT. Don't forget that Valve is giving away a Steam Deck every minute.
