Gran Turismo 7 on PS VR2 won’t have any limitations apart from split screen

The confirmation that Gran Turismo 7 would become one of the PS VR2’s launch titles was one of PlayStation’s biggest announcements during their CES 2023 presentation. Some weeks after the news was released, it’s the game’s own director who’s revealing some more details about the new version of the game we’ll be getting with the device: it’s going to be the complete experience except for the lack of split screen multiplayer.

“We’re thrilled that Gran Turismo 7 will be a PS VR2 launch title! Through a free upgrade, for those who have already purchased Gran Turismo 7, players will experience all cars and tracks in VR like never before,” explains Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital and lead of the most recent entry of the franchise. “GT7 in VR takes full advantage of PS VR2’s next gen features.”

The developer listed several of these features, such as eye tracking and foveated rendering, all of which will work together to create “stunning visual fidelity while racing in any of the 450+ cars.” The only thing missing from the game now is its split screen multiplayer mode, in which two players can race together. However, the rest of the game is present and upgraded for VR. Their goal, according to Yamauchi, is that each track and circuit “From the Nürburgring to Tsukuba, tracks can be experienced exactly as they are in real life.”

There were some fears amongst the community about the lack of details of what kind of support would be included with the game. Gran Turismo Sport was the last game of the franchise, and at its time it became one of the first games to be converted into the first generation PS VR, but it was limited to only one single player game mode. The technical limitations of the PS4 and the device were the cause of this, but it seems like those fears have been put to rest.
