If you want to play GoldenEye 007 on Xbox, you need to enable this setting
The re-release of GoldenEye 007 has not been without its criticisms, including its control scheme. Here we show you how to re-enable the strafe run.
GoldenEye 007 was released last January 27th as part of the Nintendo 64 catalog on Nintendo Switch Online and also on Xbox family consoles for free to Xbox Game Pass subscribers and the digital version of Rare Replay. However, there is a problem with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions: the strafe run is not active by default. We will tell you how to enable it.
How to activate the strafe run on GoldenEye 007 on Xbox
The strafe run was one of the most used maneuvers by players of the original Nintendo 64 GoldenEye 007. Speedrunners or not, its use is practically mandatory when it comes to unlocking the game's cheats, which require us to complete the missions of the single-player mode under a certain time. Walking at a 45-degree angle doubles our character's speed. It just so happens that it is not enabled by default on the Xbox.
To activate this option, just press the pause button in the middle of the game so that Bond can use his watch, and here we go to the controls section. In "Configure" we go to the D-Pad, which has no function enabled by default. We set it to "Move & Strafe" and we can use the strafe run, a maneuver that cannot be performed when moving with the stick of the Xbox One controller.
As we mentioned before, the strafe run is the effect that if you press a vertical and horizontal direction on the crossbar at the same time, your character will move twice as fast. This is a technique popularized by speedrunners to complete the game as quickly as possible. It is something that becomes essential if we want to unlock the cheats and extras of the game, which require us to complete the missions in different difficulties in the shortest possible time.
The use or not of the strafe run is something that is particularly noticeable in missions with a very strict par time, such as Facility or Archives. Furthermore, beating the par times of each level in GoldenEye 007 not only unlocks extras in the game, such as infinite ammo or invisibility, but also unlocks achievements.
