How has Armored Core VI been influenced by Hidetaka Miyazaki?
The Dark Souls and Elden Ring creator worked on Armored Core VI in its initial phases, on some very specific aspects of the game.
Armored Core is peeking over the horizon for 2023, with tons of hype behind it being a new title in a From Software franchise. The creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring are working on a new entry to the mech combat series after 10 years of waiting. With the popularity garnered by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team, the project’s producer has detailed exactly what he worked on during its development:
“His title for this game is ‘Initial Game Director,’ which means he directed the initial phases of the game’s development,” said Yasunori Ogura, producer of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, during an interview with Gematsu. “Obviously he didn’t do that alone, but he worked together with people like Kenneth Chan, co-director and producer of Fires of Rubicon, as well as a range of other developers, to establish the game’s foundation. This includes such elements as map design, action fundamentals, and other core elements at the game’s heart.”
Armored Core VI will be peak From Software
During the same interview, Ogura left it clear that the team behind the game was “determined to take advantage of FromSoftware’s experience and know-how to really establish freedom for the player in terms of what can be done with game controls and the customization that lies at the series’ core.”
“That was the key point we focused on. When you play the game, you will see how changing parts affects the action elements. The action and customization elements really do work together symbiotically, and I really think this is the most important thing. Defining the parameters that govern this relationship was absolutely key,” he stated.
The revelation of this sixth main entry for the Armored Core franchise was made during The Game Awards 2022. Bandai NAmco is once again working with From Software to publish the game. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will launch at some point during 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
