Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again

Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher, is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jon Bernthal once again takes up arms and the Skull Shirt to reprise his role as the violent Marvel Comics anti-hero.

The Punisher will reunite with Daredevil

Confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, the actor many of us know for his role as Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead will be back for the upcoming Marvel Studios series for Disney+, Daredevil: Born Again. This marks the third return of an actor who has participated in Marvel's MCU series on Netflix. Bernthal first brought the tormented and violent vigilante to life in Daredevil Season 2 in 2016, and years later he had his own series, The Punisher, which ran for two seasons between 2017 and 2019.

Previously, Charlie Cox and Vicent D'Onofrio made a triumphant return to the MCU last May thanks to a couple of cameos. Charlie Cox reprised his role as lawyer Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, while D'Onofrio reprised his role as Wilson Fisk in the Disney+ series Hawkeye.

Daredevil: Born Again begins filming

The new Disney+ series will start shooting this month in New York. The series will count with Matt Corman and Chris Ord as executive producers and is planned to have 18 episodes, which increases the number of chapters that Disney+ has us used to in its series, in the spring of 2024. However, unless there are any surprises, it seems this is as far as the return of actors from the past series. Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, who played Foggy Nelson and Karen Page in Netflix's Daredevil, are not expected to return.

The future of the MCU series

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, revealed that the number of UCM series will be reduced during Phase 5 in order to "The pace at which we're putting out the Disney+ shows will change so they can each get a chance to shine.” This means that by 2023, the streaming channel will only have two Marvel series, Secret Invasion and Loki Season 2.
