How to get to Messmer the Impaler in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree

Have you already killed the Putrescent Knight? - Congratulations! But the really hard part starts now, because Shadow of the Erdtree gets serious when it’s time to face Messmer the Impaler, the fourth main boss of the Elden Ring DLC. Don’t know where he is? Don’t worry, here’s a video showing his location.

How to get to Messmer the Impaler

Strategy for defeating Messmer the Impaler

  • The first phase of the battle is similar to that of Rellana. This is a duel against a humanoid that moves very fast and hits several times in a row. You can block or dodge all of his attacks, and then throw two or three hits.
  • After his health is reduced by half, Messmer will transform.
  • In this second phase, it will have two very dangerous attacks. One is to summon giant snakes, which he will launch at you up to three times; block or dodge. In the other, he will stand up, a sure sign that he will then perform a powerful fire attack in a potentially deadly area. In this case, it is best to run as soon as he rises.

After the fight, you will have obtained the Messmer’s Kindling, a key item that is essential for the continuation of the story in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. There is nothing else to do in this place, so your next objective is the fifth final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree: Romina, Saint of the Bud.
