Before GTA 6: this was the ambitious project canceled with 4 protagonists and more maps than Vice City

Rockstar Games had a more ambitious plan than what we have seen in GTA 6.

GTA 6 Rockstar Games proyecto cancelado Americas

GTA 6 is the most anticipated game in the industry right now. It is the real colossus that everyone wants to play. If what was shown in the second trailer left you with your mouth open, you should know that Rockstar’s plan was originally much more ambitious but was eventually canceled to reduce the scale and be more accurate with the proposal.

This is what Grand Theft Auto 6 was like before it was the GTA 6 we know

Stephen Totilo, a reputed journalist who worked at Axios in 2022, revealed, according to sources, what would be known internally as ‘Project Americas.’ Apparently, Rockstar Games wanted the plot to revolve around “four protagonists and three cities.

Vice City would not have been the only major city in the game, but the scale traced other regions of the United States. In fact, in a parallel briefing by Jason Schreier, he commented that the team wanted the installment to be “more vast than any Grand Theft Auto game to date.”

The Bloomberg journalist also indicated that huge territories would be included after studying areas of North and South America. But in general, it got out of hand. At the time, the project’s leaders decided to skew this illusion and focus on Vice City and its surroundings. Seeing the result seen in the two trailers, it seems that they were not wrong.

Remember that GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version will follow at a later date.
