Castlevania: Nocturne unveils its release date and a first poster

Netflix’s Castlevania, the incredibly successful animated series adapted from the Konami video games of the same name, had four incredible seasons that expanded the lore of the vampire-filled universe to lengths no one expected. And after a long wait with almost no news, they’ve now surprised us with the release date for Castlevania: Nocturne.

The news come directly from the source, as Netflix Geeked’s account on Twitter made a post that included the premiere date of September 28th, as well as the poster you’ll find below and the news that a new teaser trailer is to be released tomorrow.

From a bloody rondo to a symphonic night

Castlevania: Nocturne is a completely new story set in the same universe, as it leaves behind Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, as well as that entire medieval era that the previous show took place in, in favor of showcasing the legendary Richter Belmont. This descendant of the monster-hunting family is well known by fans of the games thanks to his blue outfit (this time carrying a familiar crest in the back), but most importantly for his involvement in one of the most popular stories in the entire franchise.

Set during the French Revolution, this new Belmont will be joined by Maria Renard to fight the creatures of the night haunting the streets of a more modern world. Richter was the protagonist of a couple of games in the Castlevania series, with the most prominent being Rondo of Blood, in which he’s tasked with the rescue of several maidens taken as sacrifices to resurrect Dracula himself. Afterwards he also plays a pivotal role in the quintessential title of the franchise, Symphony of the Night, in which Alucard must return to his father’s castle for reasons that we’re sure might be explored in this new sequel series.

While Netflix hasn’t always hit the mark with its adaptations, Castlevania has been one of the best original series produced in the streaming house so far. We’ll have to wait and see if they’re able to repeat their success with this sequel.
