Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos in the latest God of War games, revealed why he’d never voice young Kratos

The man behind the latest version of Kratos in God of War spoke up about why he doesn’t ever want to voice the younger versions of the character, neither in future or previous games.

Christopher Judge is one of the biggest actors in the video game industry right now, especially known for his role as Kratos in God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok. He’s given us moments to remember, with an interpretation as brilliant as Kratos is imposing, a new version of one of the most popular characters of recent decades, and that in his last two titles had a notorious evolution concerning the Kratos that we knew in the original trilogy. Recently, Judge participated in a livestream on the Streamily channel, which is dedicated to talking to all kinds of prominent figures in the world of entertainment while they sign autographs live. That’s where he talked about his role and why he would never play a younger version of the character that has brought him stardom in the video game world.

The reason? Respect for Terrence C. Carson, the voice actor of Kratos in all the games of the saga before it’s arrival to Norse Mythology in 2018. Judge highlighted the fact that “I never watched any of the scenes from the earlier (God of War games) because TC’s so great, and I thought it would be a disservice to try to voice match him or anything, nor did they ask for it. From the very beginning, it was about making it my own”, said Judge, to which he added the fact that he has no desire to play a young Kratos, and when he was asked for something similar, he turned it down. But what about a possible return to the character’s origins? If it ended up happening, it would have to be without Christopher Judge in the voice of the video game’s most beloved Spartan.

Christopher Judge and an unforgettable Kratos

One of the most imposing characters of the last decades and voice actors who have perfectly matched what you are looking for from someone like this. T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge have been up to the task, and we will have to see what the future holds for the saga and if either of them will play Kratos again. Recently, God of War released Valhalla, a free DLC roguelike mode that once again offers us an outstanding amount of game time and lines of dialogue with which to continue discovering much more about Kratos and the world around him.
