Marvel’s X-Men movie now has ‘Hunger Games’ screenwriter on the team

Screenwriter Michael Leslie was brought in by Marvel Studios to work on the upcoming X-Men live-action reboot that’ll be part of the MCU.

The success of the recent animated series ‘X-Men 97′ has shown Marvel Studios and its executives, like Kevin Feige, that there is still a fervent interest in mutants, so they have decided to speed things up for the next live-action ‘X-Men’ movie. Although the project is still in its infancy, it’s been revealed that the team now has a scriptwriter: Michael Lesslie, who also penned the latest film in the ‘Hunger Games’ series, titled ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, released in 2023.

Deadline revealed that, although the upcoming X-Men film still has no director or actors, the critical and public success of ‘X-Men 97′ on Disney Plus after the broadcast of the last episode from its first season has made Marvel have to reorganize its agenda and give more priority to this project. And for this, they have decided to hire Michael Lesslie as the main screenwriter. It is also known that the movie will be a reboot of the mutants now as part of the MCU, so surely many actors from the Fox series such as James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will not reprise their roles.

Lesslie recently wrote the script for ‘The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ (2023), which is the fifth film in said series and serves as a prequel to the first. It was a box office success and received good reviews. despite not having Jennifer Lawrence, one of the biggest names of the franchise, which is why a large part of its notoriety has resided precisely in its script. Marvel wanted to make sure they had a solvent scriptwriter in charge of the next live-action X-Men movie.

‘X-Men’ will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

After Disney purchased Fox, many intellectual properties such as the aforementioned X-Men were once again under the Marvel umbrella. This implies that the characters that appear in the new movies like Wolverine in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ are now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this is a great incentive for this new stage of the MCU.

Furthermore, thanks to the Multiverse and the parallel and interconnected universes the franchise has been dealing with lately, We have already been able to see variants of characters from the ‘X-Men’ movies of Fox in the MCU as alternate versions of themselves, like Charles Xavier in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ (2022). This acquisition and return of properties and characters to Marvel opens the door for not only Professor X and Wolverine
