Dave Bautista reportedly emerges as candidate to play Kratos in Prime Video’s ‘God of War’
According to Variety, Bautista is in talks to replace Ryan Hurst following the actor’s departure from the series.
The race to replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in the Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ TV series appears to have a new contender. And it seems there’s a common thread, as this is yet another former WWE star.
According to Variety, Dave Bautista is currently in negotiations to star as Kratos in the upcoming series. For now, there are no details available, and this information should be taken with a grain of salt, since, as the publication itself notes, “reps for Amazon declined to comment.”
The future of Kratos and the cast of ‘God of War’
In mid-July, it was announced that Ryan Hurts was leaving the project due to a torn bicep that would sideline him for several months. The series had already finished filming the first four episodes, so in addition to considering a change in actors, those episodes would also have to be reshot—or at least the parts in which Kratos appeared.
The show is scheduled to return in October, and in addition to Bautista, someone else has already made it clear that he is also in talks to replace Hurts. A couple of weeks ago, Adam Scherr, also a former WWE wrestler, shared a post on social media about a visit to Amazon Studios.

Just this morning, it was also reported that despite these setbacks, the studio is already thinking about the second season and a recast of two of its youngest cast members. Although Season 2 has not yet been announced, it is expected that Callum Vinson as Atreus and Island Austin as Thrud will be recast to portray older versions of their characters, just as in God of War: Ragnarok. For now, we’ll have to wait for official announcements regarding how this series evolves and changes.
