DC Studios is preparing an animated movie about the origins of Robin
It will have James Gunn and Matt Reeves as producers, although it will not be part of their cinematic universe.
DC Studios seems to have signed on for a new project. According to DiscussingFilm, the studio is preparing an animated movie about the origins of Robin, Batman’s squire. It will use a combination of CGI, stop-motion and live-action. The movie will focus on two of the superhero’s many origins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The story will begin with the two being two young orphaned thieves who call themselves the Dynamic Duo. It is not yet known who will direct the movie, but the movie’s producers are known: James Gunn and Matt Reeves. The former is the CEO of DC and is trying to bring the company back to the top. On the other hand, Matt Reeves was the director of “The Batman” (2022), which is considered one of the best movies about the vigilante. However, the animated film about Robin’s origins will not be part of his universe.
Who has played Robin in the movies?
The character of Robin, with all of his known aliases, has been brought to the big screen on a few occasions and referenced in as many others. In Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ films, Marlon Wayans (‘Requiem for a Dream’, ‘Scary Movie’) was the director’s choice for ‘Batman Returns’, but the project changed hands and other options were explored for the role of Robin. In Joel Schumacher’s saga, Chris O’Donnell brought the vigilante’s sidekick to life in his two films, Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.
Recently, Joseph Gordon-Levitt played Robin in the final part of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. In this role, he is a Gotham City police sergeant named John Blake, but rebels as Robin at the end of the movie. In addition, the character is referenced in the DC Extended Universe in films such as ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’.
