‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ won’t require viewers to watch everything else in the MCU
Shawn Levy continues to be tightlipped about what cameos we’ll see in ' Deadpool & Wolverine’, but did reveal you won’t have to do homework before watching it.
There’s no doubt ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is the most anticipated MCU film in recent years, and after the stumbles by ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, Marvel needs the loudest antihero to raise his head and regain the public’s trust. Together with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and the surprising cameos that are expected, he aims to achieve as such, but that does not mean that few viewers go to the cinema fearful of being lost with the Marvel Universe after having missed some of its recent films.
Fortunately, according to its director, we do not need to prepare too much by watching previous MCU productions that, due to criticism and opinions, we do not feel like watching.
“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies.” said Shawn Levy to the Associated Press. “I very much made this film with a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”
Cameos that remain unrevealed
Levy is about to enter a phase of real irritation when asked about the cameos that ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will have, especially, obviously, that of Taylor Swift. A few weeks ago he was less willing to engage in the question, although now he seems to have recovered in part.
“Audiences are hungry for a great time at the movies,” says the director. “They want to be delighted, transported, and entertained. And when they are given that, whether it’s Barbie, Oppenheimer, or any number of other recent movies, they show up. The movie is built for audience delight. I think [they’re] in for a very fun ride.”
At the moment, there are already several cameos that are certain: on the part of the X-Men we will see again Cyclops and Professor Charles Xavier, it was recently confirmed that Famke Jansen will not be there with her Jean Gray from the original trilogy. We will also see Jennifer Garner dressed again in the red suit of Elektra, which has sparked a rumor that Ben Affleck could also return as Daredevil, which is by no means 100% official.
