Assassin's Creed

Don’t look for it, one of Japan’s most iconic locations is not in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Mount Fuji does not appear in Ubisoft’s new video game because that area of the map was not recreated.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

16th century. Infighting among warlords is bleeding feudal Japan, causing assassinations and political and social instability. Oda Nobunaga undertakes a project to reunify the country, but the great powers resist and the clash becomes inevitable. This is the historical period in which Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place, the new video game from Ubisoft Quebec, which revisits the RPG formula of Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. The open world picks up part of the map of Japan, but does not even include the entire island of Honshu. That means that one of the most recognizable and representative elements of the country does not appear in the game.

It is located between the provinces of Shizuoka and Yamanashi, stands 12,389 feet high and its peak is the highest in all of Japan. Snow covers the top of the volcano and colors Mount Fuji, which is always surrounded by clouds. Neither Yasuke nor Naoe will be able to climb this mountain, as Ubisoft’s adventure takes place in central Japan. Therefore, this part of the map cannot be visited.

It is unknown if the studio intends to expand regions in future updates and expansions beyond the island that will be added in Claws of Awaji -so far, the only confirmed content-, although it is a shame that such a recognizable place was left out.

What is the highest point on the map?

The highest point that can be reached in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Mount Hakkyo, near the provinces where Fuji is located. It rises almost 6,283 feet above the ground, so its size is about half that of Fujisan. Despite the absence of the volcano, players will be able to walk the streets of Osaka, Kyoto or Nara, travel through the Kamakura Valley and visit ancient shrines.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
