Dragon Age: Inquisition, 2024’s GOTY, is still free for a few hours on PC
Ahead of the release of Dragon Age Dreadwolf (still without a date), Epic Games Store is giving away the complete edition of Dragon Age: Inquisition for free
BioWare suffered during the development of Dragon Age: Inquisition. The creators of Mass Effect chose the Battlefield graphics engine, Frostbite, to build their game. The problem is that at that time, the tool was not optimized to create an RPG with that technology., so they had to invest countless hours into adapting it. Despite all the vicissitudes, the title was released in 2014 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, to excellent reviews. It is true that not all players were happy since the mechanics were simplified in comparison to the previous titles of the series, but that did not prevent it from winning GOTY both at The Game Awards 2014 and at MeriStation. Now, the Epic Games Store offers it for free and it is still possible to get it, although for a short time.
A decade has passed since its arrival on the market, but there is always time to play it. In fact, the launch of the next installment invites you to return to BioWare’s fantasy universe. Dragon Age Dreadwolf will be officially presented in summer, during the Summer Game Fest in June, so its release date is expected to be revealed once and for all. If there is no last-minute setback - you never know in the video game industry - the new chapter will be available before the end of the current fiscal year, that is, in the days leading up to April 2025.
BioWare needs to return to the path of success
The last few years have been difficult for BioWare. The Canadian studio has faced leadership changes, layoffs, and several video games that have not met expectations. Mass Effect Andromeda received huge criticism, both for its lack of polish and for some aspects of its gameplay. As a result, the planned downloadable content was canceled by Electronic Arts. Anthem fared worse, a game as a service that never came to fruition and that collapsed a few days after its release.
The Dragon Age saga has had three main deliveries to date: Dragon Age Origins was followed by Dragon Age II, a title made in just six months that opted for a more direct approach. In 2014 Dragon Age Inquisition arrived, so fans have been waiting for over 10 years to enjoy the next installment, Dragon Age Dreadwolf. BioWare is also working on the next Mass Effect, which will again use Unreal Engine.
