Elizabeth Olsen rules out Scarlet Witch’s return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’: “I’m Done”
After 10 years playing Wanda Maximoff, Olsen is moving on to new projects.

The 2026 release of 'Avengers: Doomsday' will bring back many beloved characters from the MCU. However, despite the swirling rumors, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch won’t be one of them. Elizabeth Olsen’s return as the powerful witch had been heavily speculated, but the actress herself has confirmed she won’t be appearing in the highly anticipated film.
Currently promoting her new movie, 'The Assessment', Olsen has revealed that she won’t be joining the crew heading to London next month to start filming 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars'. These films will be shot almost simultaneously, with a brief break in between.
When asked about her potential involvement in the upcoming Avengers films, Olsen gave a concise yet clear response: “No, I’ll be returning to the U.S.” She added, “I’m done. I’m going to film the pilot for a series called 'Seven Sisters'.” The actress went on to explain that she’s feeling somewhat fatigued after playing the same character for so long.

“It’s quite unusual. It’s been incredible, but I understand how people feel when they’ve been part of the same series for such a long time,” Olsen elaborated. “Coming back to a character and continuing to evolve it has been a lot of fun for me, especially when I had the chance to do something like WandaVision. And from there, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a wild and crazy return. I feel very fortunate to have portrayed a character for 10 years of my life, and I’d love to keep doing so. But animation feels like a parallel world—I don’t quite understand how it relates to what we do. I’ve enjoyed myself, and I’ll always feel lucky for these opportunities I’ve had.”
Release Date and Returning Characters for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ already has confirmed the return of actors like Chris Evans—though his role remains unclear—and Robert Downey Jr., who will be playing the villain, Dr. Doom. For now, the strongest candidates to form this new Avengers team include Sam Wilson as the new Captain America and Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange). Rumors suggest potential new members like War Machine, Thor (Jane Foster), or Shang-Chi, as well as the three protagonists from 'The Marvels': Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to release on May 1, 2026, followed by 'Avengers: Secret Wars', which will hit theaters almost a year later on May 7, 2027.
