Scarlett Johansson rules out Black Widow’s return to the MCU: “You have to let her go.”

Johansson will henceforth be the big star of the ‘Jurassic World’ saga.

Like many other heroes and heroines of the MCU, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow run ended in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. As of now, and as seen coming in the film starring Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) who will henceforth embody that role, meaning that Johansson’s character will not return to the Marvel universe in the movies, as she herself has confirmed.

Natasha Romanoff’s journey in the MCU has come to an end

“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. Okay?” she said flatly in an interview with InStyle. “They just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

Although her time as Black Widow is over, Scarlett Johansson has not abandoned the MCU completely, as she is in fact a producer of ‘Thunderbolts’, where Belova will be enshrined not only as the new Black Widow, but also as the leader of this group of antiheroes. In fact, this movie has a great connection with ‘Black Widow’, the movie that both starred in 2021.

Her passage through the MCU, and its end, were far from traumatic, there is something that the actress regrets, and that is not having explored more of her past alongside Clint Barton/Jeremy Renner. “I probably would have gone further into the Black Widow story,” she acknowledges. “I would have loved to have seen Hawkeye, Black Widow, some more of that. We see some parts of her life, but not the origin.”

‘Thunderbolts’ premieres next May 2, and we’ll see not only the return of Yelena Belova, but also Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), plus the expected debut of Sentry (Lewis Pullman).
