‘House of the Dragon’ season 3 to kick off with one of the saga’s bloodiest and most anticipated battles
It was cut from the second season due to lack of time, but the Battle of the Gullet will appear in the series.

Production on the third season of “House of the Dragon” is about to begin. The Targaryen family will rise again on the backs of their reptiles, which will unleash all their deadly majesty in the new episodes of the series. The ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off will continue to explore the fratricidal conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons. Although the new season won’t be available until 2026, HBO has already revealed the first details. In an interview with Deadline, the network’s president of film and drama series, Francesca Orsi, revealed that the series will capture the Battle of the Gullet in its first episode. Considered one of the bloodiest and most violent battles in the saga, it was cut from the second season after the decision was made to reduce the number of episodes from 10 to 8.
“I’m really excited. I think you’re going to be in for a great surprise on how we start the [season] with an exciting battle,” she said. “You know what, it was worth the wait. I was just on set and saw all the elements and what was behind it. I’m so glad we waited because it’s going to be better than ever, and I don’t think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we’ve achieved now this season. According to Orsi, it’s “so massive” that they needed time to prepare, and “One of the lead producers on it [Kevin de la Noy] worked on ‘Titanic’, so he brought that experience to House of the Dragon.

A sea battle with catastrophic consequences
The Battle of the Gullet is a naval battle that pitted the Greens against the Blacks, the two warring factions during The Dance of the Dragons. Ryan Condal, showrunner of the series, explained last August that they didn’t have time to include it in the previous season. The main reason is that they needed to give it “the time and space it deserves.” Thousands died in the battle, a cost in lives that extended beyond civilians and soldiers. During this time, the Targaryens themselves suffered significant losses, including, of course, their own dragons.
