Is Nintendo Switch 2 the most expensive Nintendo console? All the starting prices of the Big N consoles
The new console will cost $449.99 at launch, a higher price than the previous one.

During the Nintendo Direct on April 3rd, the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 was not announced. The Japanese decided to leave this information out, although stores and the official website itself soon confirmed the cost of the new console. The standard edition will be priced at $449.99, while the pack with Mario Kart World will reach $499.99. Coupled with the increase in the price of the games ($90 for the physical editions), tempers are running high, and critics have not been slow to complain. Under these circumstances, it is worth asking whether Switch 2 is the most expensive console in Nintendo’s history.
Looking back at the Kyoto company’s launch history, everything indicates that Nintendo Switch 2 is its most expensive console to date. However, it is necessary to consider inflation as an analysis variable. We used information provided by the Inflation Station website, which presents statistics on launch prices and their adjusted prices. Taking this into account, Switch 2 is still one of the company’s most expensive machines. However, the NES cost $199 at the time, which is more than $584 today. The Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Switch itself were also expensive consoles compared to other machines.
