The Switch 2 event showcased Hollow Knight: Silksong, though it wasn’t what we expected

The long-awaited sequel is set to arrive in 2025.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event was packed with exciting announcements, from the reveal of Mario Kart World to updates on third-party blockbusters like Elden Ring. However, one of the most anticipated moments was the appearance of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news about this sequel for years, and while it did make an appearance, it left many with mixed feelings.

During the event, Silksong was briefly shown in a sizzle reel of upcoming titles for the Nintendo Switch 2. The footage, lasting only a few seconds, showcased Hornet’s acrobatic combat and the game’s signature Metroidvania style. While it was thrilling to see the game resurface, the lack of a dedicated trailer or new gameplay details left some of us a bit underwhelmed. After years of delays and silence, we were expecting a more substantial update.

On the bright side though, Nintendo confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will release in 2025, marking the first official release window for the game since its announcement in 2019. This news is surely a relief for fans who have been speculating about the game’s progress, but the absence of a specific release date could also spark concerns about potential delays.

Despite the brevity of its showcase, it’s clear that Hollow Knight: Silksong remains a priority for both Team Cherry and Nintendo. However, Xbox didn’t want to be left behind, and reminded players that the game will also launch on day one with Xbox Game Pass.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While no specific release date was provided, the game’s inclusion in the event, and the 2025 release window is a sign of good progress in the development of this long-awaited sequel.
