Kingdom Hearts IV was first announced in 2022, and since then, fans have eagerly awaited updates on its development. The game follows the beloved crossover between Disney and Square Enix, which has captivated millions worldwide.

The latest batch of official screenshots showcases Sora, Mickey Mouse, and the urban world of Quadratum. The most exciting reveal? Mickey Mouse appears to be a playable character, marking a major milestone for the franchise.

Mickey Mouse as a playable character

While Mickey has appeared in previous Kingdom Hearts games, he has rarely been fully playable. The new images suggest that players will control Mickey in certain sequences, though Square Enix has yet to confirm the extent of his role.

This reveal comes alongside the official cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, a mobile RPG that was originally announced in 2022 but will no longer be released.

Square Enix reassures fans

Following the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, Square Enix posted a message on social media, stating:

“We are working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV and will continue dedicating ourselves fully to its development. We are committed to making this an experience that meets your expectations!”

The company also acknowledged the excitement surrounding the game, promising to share more details when the time is right.

When will Kingdom Hearts IV be released?

As of now, Square Enix has not announced an official release date for Kingdom Hearts IV. Given the long development cycle of previous entries, fans may have to wait a while before the game is ready.
