MindsEye devs are “heartbroken” over launch issues, promise fixes after memory leak disaster

The first patch is already live, showing how hard the devs are working to improve MindsEye after having a Cyberpunk 2077-like launch.

Update:

MindsEye, the highly anticipated action game from Build A Rocket Boy, and published by IO Interactive (Hitman), launched to widespread technical issues, crashes, and performance problems. The developers have now confirmed that a memory leak was the primary culprit, affecting roughly 1 in 10 players. In response, they’ve released a hotfix and pledged to continue improving the game, stating, “We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended.”

What went wrong?

MindsEye suffered from severe performance drops, glitchy NPCs, and random crashes, leading to frustration among players. Sponsored streamers even struggled to showcase the game without encountering hilarious but disastrous bugs.

The developers identified a memory leak as the root cause, which led to unstable gameplay and frequent crashes. This issue impacted roughly 10% of players, prompting an urgent response from the studio.

First hotfix: What’s been fixed?

The first emergency patch is now live on PC and PS5, with an Xbox update coming soon. Key improvements include:

  • Memory leak fix – The primary issue causing crashes has been resolved.
  • CPU and GPU performance improvements – Optimizations to reduce lag and stuttering.
  • Depth of field settings – Players can now disable or modify depth of field effects.
  • Mini-game fixes – Missing controls in MineHunter and Run Dungeon have been restored.
  • CPR mini-game difficulty reduced – A notoriously tough challenge has been adjusted.
  • PC-specific warnings – New pop-ups alert players if Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is disabled or if their CPU has potential crash risks.

What’s next?

The developers have promised two more hotfixes this month, focusing on:

  • Ongoing performance and stability improvements
  • Animation fixes
  • AI behavior adjustments
  • Rebalancing the “hard” difficulty setting

They’ve assured players that performance optimization is their number one focus, stating, “We will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates. Our team is committed to do everything possible to urgently action your feedback.”

MindsEye’s launch has been rough, but Build A Rocket Boy is working hard to turn things around. With multiple patches planned, the game could still recover from its disastrous debut. Whether these fixes will be enough to regain player trust remains to be seen, but at least the studio is actively listening and responding.
