Not just ‘Star Wars’: the sci-fi trilogy Disney took 42 years to complete
Jared Leto leads the return of a sci-fi universe that long ceased to be just a cult classic.

After more than four decades, Disney is finally ready to conclude one of its most groundbreaking sagas: ‘Tron’. On October 10, ‘Tron: Ares’ will hit theaters as the third and final installment of a trilogy that began in 1982, revolutionizing the way digital worlds were imagined and portrayed in cinema.

In 2010, nearly 30 years later, Disney revived the story with ‘Tron: Legacy’. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, the sequel introduced Flynn’s son, Sam, in a new adventure within the system. With a $170 million budget, the film grossed approximately $410 million worldwide, solidifying the saga’s place in popular culture.

Though the sequel was announced in 2010, the project faced numerous changes, cancellations, and restarts. At one point, it was even considered more of a “reboot” than a direct continuation. However, with Kosinski returning as director and the comeback of Wilde and Hedlund, Disney is finally closing the chapter on a story 42 years in the making.
The result? One of the most anticipated films of the year—and perhaps the rebirth of a universe with even more to explore.
