Pokémon TCG Pocket is finally giving away the previously unobtainable card that completes the Promo A set

If you’re one of the Pokémon TCG Pocket players who’s been wondering what card number 8 in the Promo-A set was, stop looking: its creators have started giving it away as of January 20, 2025. It is the Pokédex card, with a new illustration showing Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu next to the small digital encyclopedia used in the games and anime. DeNA and Creatures decided to give away this new card to commemorate a major milestone in the game: the accumulation of 40 billion cards by all players worldwide.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Gives Away a New Card to Complete the Promo-A Set

Beginning on January 20, 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket will give away the Pokédex card from the Promo-A set, allowing players who have already collected all of the remaining cards in the Promo A set to complete it. To claim it, simply go to the Gift Chest by tapping the Gift icon in the upper-right corner of the main screen and pick it up.

Although the playable version of the card is essentially the same as the standard version, allowing us to look at the top three cards in our deck, the Promo A set features an alternate illustration of Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu next to the Pokédex. The choice of these creatures is no coincidence, as each of them was the cover Pokémon of the First Generation titles, which were the Red and Green editions in Japan and the Red, Blue, and Yellow editions in the West.

As Serebi points out on X - formerly Twitter - there is an important reason behind receiving this nice gift: it is a way to commemorate a major milestone in the game, which is reaching 40 billion cards collected by all players around the world.

Unfortunately, there is no special reward for getting the 33 cards that make up the Promo-A set, which can be explained in one of two ways: there really is no extra prize, or, as has been the case since its launch, this expansion will continue to add new cards over time. Either way, this new card symbolizes a great achievement by players around the world, and underscores the huge global impact of Pokémon TCG Pocket, and how it has managed to unite Pokémon Trainers from around the world who share their passion for the Pokémon universe.
