‘President Curtis,’ a ‘Rick & Morty’ spinoff, releases its first trailer and reveals its premiere date

The ‘Rick & Morty’ universe has introduced us to many characters over the course of 8 seasons (we’re currently in season 9), and President Curtis is the first character to appear over the years who gets his chance to shine on his own in a spinoff. During the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the series’ first trailer was unveiled, along with its premiere date—which is closer than you might think. When is ‘President Curtis’ coming out, and what will it be about?

‘President Curtis’ will premiere on July 26, right after the season 9 finale of ‘Rick & Morty,’ as revealed by showrunners Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. The series is described as a mix between ‘The X-Files’ and ‘Community,’ where Curtis and his team will have to deal with various threats ranging from monsters and fantasy elements to science fiction concepts. “In the writers’ room, we said [Curtis] should be your fantasy president,” Harmon said during the panel. “He’s an eighth-grade boy who wants to be Batman. He’s Bruce Wayne, but a little dumber.”

Rick and Morty Season 9 shows its first footage and promises bigger, stranger adventures

The cast includes Keith David as the titular President Andre Curtis, with Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn 99) and Jim Rash (Community) also appearing. President Curtis has appeared in eight ‘Rick and Morty’ episodes since Season 2’s “Get Schwifty,” often clashing with Rick in increasingly surreal scenarios, from turkey transformations to hive-mind approval schemes. Harmon and Siciliano called him “the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office.”
