Sony already thinking about PlayStation 6: SoC and the first console details leaked
Reputed insiders predict the console’s release window.

The general feeling with the current generation is that there is still a lack of names taking advantage of the guts of the consoles. If we look at the exclusive catalog of both PS5 and Xbox series X|S, the cadence of releases increases in the second half of their cycle, but there is still a lot to ask. For PlayStation in 2025, two games are expected to arrive to fulfill this task, Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. However, the plans of the Japanese company have already pointed to PS6. Yes, Nintendo Switch 2 was announced just a few days ago and some are already thinking about the next generation.
This is what has been leaked about PS6: precedents mark its release date
A well-known insider in the technology sector has leaked some details about the future PlayStation 6 on Neogaf. Apparently, the design of the system on a chip (‘SoC’ in English) is finished and is in the middle of the validation process in the digital environment, that is, they are testing if it really works as Sony intends. Remember that AMD will be powering the console.
Internally, they expect the first physical prototype of the console to materialize during this 2025. The same insider assures that this movement has many precedents within the company. It is usual that when the prototype arrives, the launch of the final model on the market occurs two years later, so if we continue in the same timeframe, we would be talking about the arrival of PS6 at the end of 2027. The margins make sense. It took exactly 7 years to go from PS4 to PS5, although the transition was sweeter than usual. Reuters stated in 2024 that backwards compatibility will be guaranteed in the next generation.
Tom Henderson, a regular of this information, assured last September that the PlayStation 6 is preparing two different SoCs, in other words, two different chips developed in parallel. Many voices pointed out that it could be a move similar to that of Xbox this generation, with Series S below the $500 of Series X. Others, however, fueled speculation that it would be a dedicated handheld to bring the PS6 desktop experience everywhere.
