After years of waiting from the players, and even more work on the part of Square Enix, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, one of the most desired games of the year without a doubt, finally arrives in stores today. With glowing review scores from the critics, the game has quickly established itself as a GOTY candidate, and so the developer team can finally rest easy. One of the people in charge of the game, producer Yoshinori Kitase, already knows what to do now with all the free time he has ahead of him, which won’t be too much either since the team has to start working on the third installment.

Kitase acknowledged in an interview during the BAFTAs that his passion for video games began with the original The Legend of Zelda on NES, also confessing to being a fan of the Nintendo saga, with the last one of the series still on his bucket list.

Kitase confesses himself as a Zelda fan

“I like the whole series,” says the producer of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. “I don’t think I’ve played every single one of the spinoffs and everything, but I definitely play most of them, including the latest, Tears of the Kingdom. I actually got right up into the end of it, but unfortunately my work on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth got really busy right at that point, and I’ve kind of had it on hold since then”

In the same interview, Kitase assures that, despite not having played Tears of The Kingdom as much as he would have liked, he has replayed one of his favorite games from last year: Pikmin 4. “There are still things I haven’t done yet, so I really want to go through and get everything,” Kitase admits. “I like the way that they just die really quickly when they’re on their own, but they can come together as a group and try hard to achieve things” he concludes, recommending one of the many fantastic games of 2023 that went unnoticed under the release of giants like Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Tears of the Kingdom itself.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PlayStation 5.
