Who said ‘Star Wars Rogue Squadron’ was dead? Wonder Woman director returns to Lucasfilm
Patty Jenkins confirms she has signed a new deal to develop the film, so she will work on developing and writing a new draft of the script.
Many thought it was impossible for ‘Star Wars Rogue Squadron’ to go ahead. Patty Jenkins’ film was put on hold because the director was focusing on ‘Wonder Woman 3′, a production that will not be happening in the end. However, the situation has been resolved, as the filmmaker herself revealed on Ben Mankiewicz’s podcast. According to her own words, she has signed a new deal with Lucasfilm to develop the project.
“I now owe a draft of ‘Star Wars’”
“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,’ so we started a deal for that to happen.” At the time, however, she thought she was doing the DC Studios movie, a situation that changed when James Gunn and Peter Safran were chosen to direct the future of the cinematic universe of Batman, Superman and company. The movie was canceled and Patty Jenkins was no longer the director. “We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning,” she noted. “‘So I now owe a draft of Star Wars.’So we will see what happens there. Who knows.” she said.
Jenkins added that Lucasfilm has a “tough job” because they have to choose which movie to make first. “They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We’ll see what happens. We need to get it to where we’re both super happy with it.”
The future of ‘Star Wars’ in the movies seems to be on hold. Since the release of ‘Rise of Skywalker’, Lucasfilm has not been able to get a film project off the ground. However, all indications are that both ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ and ‘Star Wars: The New Jedi Order’, the movie starring Rey Skywalker, will start production soon. Daisy Ridley has indicated that she expects filming to begin this year or next year at the latest.
