Team USA defeated Colombia 3-2 on Wednesday to snatch a place in the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals, as Mike Trout had three hits and three RBIs.
The United States and Mexico took the top two slots in Pool C after both teams went 3-1 in games played at Chase Field. Because of its 11-5 victory over the Americans on Sunday, Mexico received the top spot in the pool and will play Puerta Rico in the quarters. As a result, the United States will face Pool D’s victorious team, Venezuela, who topped group D. Trout completed 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles, and a walk, scoring every run for Team USA. Trout batted second in the order and was 2-for-8 in his previous three WBC games.
