Brewers bullpen locks down Cubs after early slugfest
Milwaukee’s bullpen and three massive homers power them past the Cubs to even the National League Division Series at one game apiece.
The Milwaukee Brewers, the best team of the 2025 MLB regular season, showed their authority once again, crushing the Chicago Cubs 7–3 in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. The win came on the back of three home runs – two of them three-run blasts – that electrified the crowd at American Family Field.
Jacob Misiorowski earned the win after the game turned into a bullpen showdown just one inning in. Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga took the loss, allowing four of the Brewers’ seven runs in just 2⅔ innings of work.
Home runs for everyone
The Cubs struck first with a three-run homer in the opening frame. Nico Horner singled, Kyle Tucker drew a walk, and Seiya Suzuki connected on a high fastball from Aaron Ashby, sending it deep into center field to make it 3–0.
Milwaukee didn’t take long to respond. William Contreras and Christian Yelich singled to get on base, and Andrew Vaughn tied the game by launching a 109.2 mph line drive into the left-field seats, spoiling Imanaga’s debut.
The Brewers took the lead for good in the third when Contreras crushed a solo shot to left, prompting Imanaga’s early exit after another Yelich single.
But the highlight came an inning later. With two outs and runners on first and second, Jackson Chourio delivered the knockout punch – a towering three-run homer off Daniel Palencia for his first postseason blast. The 21-year-old Venezuelan battled through a two-strike count before sending the ball over the wall to give Milwaukee a commanding lead.
Milwaukee bullpen seals the deal
Misiorowski set the tone on the mound, throwing three dominant innings to stabilize the game after the early slugfest. From there, Chad Patrick, Jared Koenig, and Trevor Megill took turns silencing Chicago’s lineup through the eighth.
Dominican closer Abner Uribe finished the job in style, striking out Carson Kelly, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Dansby Swanson to end the game with authority.
Milwaukee now heads to Chicago with the series tied and all the momentum on their side.
