Cody Bellinger leaves Dodgers for Cubs
Outfielder Cody Bellinger will play the 2023 Major League Baseball season with the Chicago Cubs after spending six years with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers released multiple free agents at the end of the 2022 MLB season and at the start of the Winter Meetings have been unable to re-sign stars like shortstop Trea Turner and starting pitcher Tyler Anderson.
Now, the Los Angeles team must look for a new center fielder with the departure of Cody Bellinger. According to a report by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Chicago Cubs signed the outfielder for one year and $17.5 million. At this time, the team has not confirmed the transaction.
After being named the National League MVP in 2019, Bellinger's performance with the bat has gone downhill. In 2022, the 27-year-old batted .210/.265/.389 after racking up 106 hits and driving in 68 runs in 504 at-bats.
Despite his lack of production on offense, the outfielder did not disappoint when defending his pitch. The 2019 Gold Glove winner had 327 defensive chances in 1,233 innings and made just three errors.

The New York Yankees have taken one of their relievers from the Dodgers. Based on another report by Feinsand, Tommy Kahnle will return to Yankee Stadium for the next two seasons in exchange for $11.5 million.
King Kahn was drafted by the Yankees in 2010, but began his major league career with the Colorado Rockies in 2014. Midway through the 2017 season, the New York team made a trade with the Chicago White Sox to get him back. In total, Kahnle appeared in 129 games in his first stint with the Manhattan Mules and posted a 4.01 ERA with a 6-3 record and one save.
After missing the 2021 season because of Tommy John surgery, Kahnle appeared in 13 games with the Dodgers in 2022. The right-handed pitcher posted a 2.84 ERA after allowing four runs in 12.2 innings he pitched.
