Shohei Ohtani never ceases to amaze with his performances in MLB. The Japanese player hit the most powerful home run of his MLB career during the Los Angeles Dodgerseventual 1-4 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The Japanese star stepped into the batter’s box in the ninth inning with the score in his side’s favour (1-3), Up against relief pitcher Matt Barnes, Ohtani struck a home run that stunned those watching as the ball flew and the cheers responded. The home run was Ohtani’s first at the home of the Nationals.

How far did the ball travel for Ohtani’s record home run?

The ball travelled a total of 450 feet at a speed of 118.7 miles per hour as the bewildered crowd at Nationals Park went wild with jubilation.

The Dodgers’ 17 has not tired of registering homers in 2024 and has six at the time of writing. The major league home run leaders are Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves and Mike Trout, Ohtani’s former teammate with the Los Angeles Angels, with nine each.

What was the previous fastest home run record?

The 2024 Major League Baseball season is nearing the one-month mark, and players have already made some truly hits during that time. The hardest, prior to Ohtani’s tonight, had been recorded by Fernando Tatis Jr. and Giancarlo Stanton with singles that traveled 116.7 mph, according to MLB.com.

Incredible MLB scenes:

Ohtani’s teammate, Max Muncy, called the hit “the farthest top-spin ball I’ve ever seen in my life”, before adding, “to hit a ball in the upper deck with top spin is pretty impressive.”

Ohtani’s offensive talent this season has shown why the Dodgers paid what they did: the Japanese star has six home runs to his name and a batting average of .364 so far this season.
